About Grimoire

Exploration. Discovery. Collaboration. Curation.

Grimoire is taking a blender’s journey into the next chapter, to have the chance to work with other makers and whiskies for an even wider set of flavors. The name Grimoire refers to an old tome or book that was used to “bring spirits to life” and that best describes this new mission. Making whiskey pilgrimages to find casks & bringing them to life as custom tinctures, this blending house will take members around the world while I hunt down forgotten whiskey in dark corners. To find casks left to time and blend them my way; flavorful yet balanced, intriguing but approachable. And with an expected sense of mystery… a few surprise releases too.

Sense memory

What it calls up

It’s known that scents can induce strong reactions and memories, sometimes bringing us right back to the place where it happened in our minds. Whiskey also has the curious ability to bring us somewhere we can picture despite never having been there before.

Ethereal

Narcotic, faint fruit, light floral with heady effects. Gardenia strangles cotton candy grapes.

Musky

Medicinal, animalic, wet earth, precious flower oils. Like a werewolf wearing ylang-ylang, glamorous & gruesome.

Caramellic

Lush, browned butter, vanilla caramel, but more like bitter crème brûlée than panna cotta. Like sucking nectar through a hangman’s noose.

Gourmand

Sweet, creamy, nutty sherry, stone fruit & herbs. Ripe peaches begin to decay in an oak cask that held PX for 15 years.

About Miles Munroe

The one who keeps the notes.

The pursuit of whiskey began for Miles while managing a private whiskey bar in Kansas City. At 22 whiskey had already been a favorite, but a massive collection of rare single malts, Irish and small batch bourbons at this bar painted a bigger picture. And it was while exchanging craft beer for whiskey with his drummer at the time, Miles saw the inextricable link between the two. After moving to Portland, OR, Miles attended the American Brewers Guild to learn the science of fermentation. He brewed professionally for 4 years before signing on with House Spirits. Now, after 13 years as Master Blender there, the next chapter begins. Using years of blending knowledge and travel to faraway distilleries, Grimoire aims to be a meeting place where all things whiskey converge.
